We the undersigned, believe it is in the best interest of the development, happiness and security of the Collis nursery children that they are all admitted into Collis School's Reception class.

Ava Webster and Alexia Scammell (who live within short walking distance of the school) have spent the last year making friends and adjusting to an environment they have come to love and trust. We believe the girls should be given a place to ensure they do not lose their friendships or suffer from the loss of continuity and security of their nursery.

We understand that the school is oversubscribed, but in light of the fact that the Reception classes are to be split into 4 classes of 22 children, we firmly believe that 2 classes of 23 children and 2 classes of 22 children will make little difference. In addition, we are aware anecdotally, of up to 4 children who will be relinquishing their places at Collis in the near future, which would mean that when the children are placed into 3 classes in Year One, there would be 3 classes of 30 children. In short: no increase in Year One class sizes by including Ava and Alexia.

The Collis website states, 'Collis Primary School exists mainly for the benefit of the children and we all share a responsibility for their development and happiness.' A wonderful sentiment with which we wholeheartedly agree. As such, we suggest that the school and the Richmond Council adheres to this and puts the children's happiness and their need for security and continuity first, by doing all they can for all their pupils without compromising class sizes. We believe this is a way they can fulfil their statement.
