Hartlepool Mind Services under threat due to Governments “Comprehensive Spending Review” (CRS).

Hartlepool Mind has been delivering a wide range of service to the residents of Hartlepool, for the previous 15 years. Hartlepool Mind delivers services to over 1500 people each year. The services are free and currently open to the entire population of Hartlepool.

Some of these services include:

• Psychological Therapies
• Alcohol treatment
• Pain Management
• Social Support
• Family Support
• Children’s Counselling
• Social Prescribing
• Anger Management
• Complicated Stress Issues
• Social Problems
• Autistic Spectrum Management
• Relationship Problems
• Long-term Mental Health Problems

The scale of the problem is as follows:

• Social Prescribing- provides a screening service, brokerage and referral to a range of psychological and social support service from the statutory and voluntary sector – will mean 2160 people will not enter the service.

• Reduction to the primary care mental health service – which provides social and psychological support to reduce emotional distress and become ready for employment – will mean 1080 will not receive any services.

• The current economic climate will see an increase in the number of referrals to the service.

• The level of suicide risk has already increased the referrals to Hartlepool Mind, due to people being made unemployed and increased levels of debt. This problem will only increase over the coming months and years.


If the finances are not secured for April 2011, Over 1000 Hartlepool residents will no longer be able to receive support due to a reduction in the service.
