Henry's Coffee and Wine Bar

Dear Customers.
Our alcohol licence application is being objected to by local residents down Lodge Street by using the arguments that;
• there is not even car parking in the village;
• that we will affect the children going to school in the morning whilst trying to cross the awkward corner at the top of Lodge Street;
• that we will add to the already rowdy behaviour created outside village takeaways;
• that we will create too much noise for the surrounding residential properties;
• that we are at a busy junction which is difficult to cross;
• because we are not disabled friendly;
• and, because heavy goods vehicles already use the street.
I am asking if you would be willing to sign the attached petition in order to help us fight for our licence to be granted. We believe that in response to the points above;
• agree that there is a lack of parking in the village of Skelmanthorpe, however our approach to opening the coffee and wine bar was always to provide for the local community, people within walking distance, a relaxed and calming atmosphere that is currently unavailable without driving out of the village;
• that as children will obviously not be served alcohol, neither will alcohol be served that early in the morning to any customer, it will not change the way in which the children go to school. We have in no way changed the junction by opening a coffee and wine bar; there is a zebra crossing 100 yards further down;
• our cliental are not the people that cause the rowdy behaviour outside the takeaways, we are attracting a completely different customer base;
• that despite rumours going round the village that we will be having live bands and opening until the early hours of the morning, the only music being played is low level background music, to create an atmosphere, and normal level speaking. I have continued to check the noise levels which cannot be heard from the outside of the property;
• agree that we are not disabled friendly, but neither do we advertise that we are. Our toilet facilities are upstairs and there are two small steps down to the coffee and wine bar. We are however in the process of fitting a handrail from the top of the road round to the bottom step to make access easier for everyone;
• believe that we in no way contribute to the large lorrys which use Lodge Street.
