Keep Forestry Commission Wales independent
- sign nowThe Welsh Government is proposing to merge Forestry Commission Wales with the Countryside Council for Wales and the Environment Agency into a single body.
Wales needs an independent Forestry Commission to focus on the sustainable management of the forests of Wales and to look after the interests of forest owners and users.
Wales' forests store carbon, produce timber and firewood for the people of Wales, employ over 10,000 people, contribute over £840 million to the Welsh economy as well as providing superb recreational venues, a haven for wildlife and enhancing our landscapes.
The Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development will make a decision at the end of November. A business case is being prepared but will not be published before the decision is taken.
