Petition for councillor Charles Bayram to resign and East Riding Council to change its policy on the disposal of excess materials

Goal : 27 / 1000

More than 200 residents of Howden have signed a petition calling for East Riding Conservative councillor Charles Bayram to resign after he had 40 metres of tarmac laid on his private driveway using council tax revenue.

Now Howden Labour Party is taking the petition online in a bid to make it easier for local residents to get involved and hold councillor Bayram accountable for his actions.

Councillor Bayram refused to report his free driveway in the councillor's register of interests claiming he received no financial benefit and that no money changed hands.

He has also told the media that he would do the same again if he got the opprortunity.

East Riding Council has said its contractors make their own arrangements for disposal of excess materials and that the arrangement with councillor Bayram was in line with historic practise. It has, however, referred the matter to its in-house Standards Committee.

Councillor Bayram showed extremely bad judgement throughout this whole affair.

East Riding Council awards contracts every year worth millions of pounds. As a direct result of his actions councillor Bayram's objectivity could now be compromised when contracts are being awarded and his impartiality could be open to question when considering planning applications.

By failing to declare the benefit he has received, councillor Bayram has also brought his position and the council into disrepute.

Howden Labour Party is calling for East Riding Council to change its policy on the disposal of excess materials. Excuses like "It's always been done this way" are no longer good enough.

This petition calls for councillor Bayram to resign and for East Riding Council to re-assess its its contractual arrangements for disposal of excess materials.
