Restrict bonfire burning in residential areas

Have you ever opened your windows on a lovely sunny day only to have to close them again because of bonfire smoke? Perhaps you have had to keep windows closed on a hot night making sleeping difficult? Have you had to bring your washing in, or even rewash it due to bonfire smoke? Or have you like me got asthma and cannot use your garden at all when someone else selfishly lights up.
Smoke from bonfires is one of the things most complained about to local councils as being a nuisance to people. The ash falls on windowsills and in neighbouring gardens, windows and washing can’t be left open and enjoyment of time spent in the garden can be spoilt.Bonfire smoke does not stay within the confines of your own garden, and in fact if you have a bonfire, do you not place it in a such a position that the smoke does not blow over your own garden or house? Is it really fair or considerate to disturb or prevent others from using their gardens fully when ever they wish, especially when there are other much more environmentally and neighbourly ways of doing it?
In today's environmentally aware world, there is no excuse for creating more air pollution by burning waste that is both compostible and recyclable. Bonfire smoke is also a significant hazard to asthmatics, young children and the elderly with breathing difficulties. I myself have spent several days recovering from a severe asthma attack as the result of someone's garden fire. We should all be able to open our windows night or day and breathe clean, smoke free air.
