Stop Bridge Leisure Centre from disturbing the peace

- sign now
Goal : 5 / 100

The Bridge Leisure Centre is a well-used leisure facility in Southeast London. What it is not is a nightclub, and yet that is how it is used almost every Saturday and often Sunday nights.

The pounding bass from the music is impossible to shut out and usually doesn't end before midnight, at which time we are serenaded by people leaving the venue, yelling and honking car horns. The room that the parties are held in is totally unsuitable for loud music as it's completely glassed in, meaning there is zero soundproofing.

You might think we live on a high street but no, we live in a normally quiet, residential area well off the main roads.

So why is this allowed to continue? We've complained to the local council and Centre staff were given a warning, at which point they say they installed 'limiters'. What good are limiters if it means we are still subjected to the pounding bass?

Please help us to stop this once and for all by putting an end to this type of event at the Centre.

Although I sympathise with the neighbours of the Bridge leisure centre, some facts need to be noted before signing such a pertition, there are always two sides to every story.

1- The bridge leisure centre has been on this site for 20 plus years, the housing estate adjacent to the main building was built on what once was playing fields belonging to the leisure centre, so any new property owners are or should be made aware of the lesiure centre and what it is used for. So new owners shouldn't complain about the leisure centre, they knew what they were buying/renting beforehand.

2 - The leisure centre has a function suite which is available for hire, this is part of Lewisham council and therfore all regulations and guidlines are put in place, adhered to and followed by the management of the function suite.

3 - Noise limiters have been installed (Once sound levels within the premises exceed the set limit, power is then cut off to the sound system) these have been regulated and setup to avoid excessive noise and disturbance to its residential neighbours, these are guidlines that have been passed through parliment and sound levels set to accomodate and to take into account the locality, neighbourhood, built up area etc.

4 - All property on the estate adjacent to the Leisure centre have double glazed  windows and doors installed, if these are kept open (which residents are entitled to) in the dead of night on playing fields, any slight noise is amplified and will always sound louder.

5 - Unfortunatly the the noise level threshold differs from person to person and although some people can withstand a level of noise, sadly some other people can't, for the latter, I don't think this should be used as an excuse to ban or stop something that is obviously well regulated just because you are part of a minority.
