The Bridge is a vibrant community education centre based in Moulsecoomb, Brighton. Set up in 1999 and part-funded by New Deal for Communities until 2008, The Bridge is housed in a building on the site of the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (formerly Falmer High School). The Bridge is open to all and provides a range of opportunities and support in an accessible and welcoming environment. The users of The Bridge include vulnerable adults, those with low-level or no qualifications and those with other health and social care needs. Increasingly agencies and workers refer people to the Bridge from across the City, especially those most in need of the kind of support that The Bridge provides.

Since New Deal funding ended in 2008, The Bridge has successfully raised funds from a variety of sources to continue and build on services. A recent Big Lottery bid was successful and has helped to secure programmes for the next few years HOWEVER... Brighton and Hove Council will soon be considering proposals for a new development where The Bridge is currently housed and this will mean demolition for The Bridge’s current site.

Today The Bridge launches its ‘Find us a Home’ appeal!
The Bridge becoming homeless will mean the loss of the following services:
• Up to 50 courses and workshops each term for adults aged 16+, either free or at low cost with around 800 enrolments each year
• A work and careers advice service and Job Club which helped 232 people last year with skills mapping CV writing, job search support etc
• IT, literacy and numeracy support and free access to computers and internet
• A well established volunteer programme supporting up to 90 people per year in a range of work settings
• Outreach and community development work; a Health and Wellbeing provision
