The FA is wrong to prevent girls playing football in mixed teams

Goal : 92 / 5000

Unlike many other countries, the English Football Association does not allow girls to play in mixed football teams above the under-11s age group. This ruling had been suspended for a trial period pending an assessment. The FA Executive and the FA Council evaluated the evidence from the trial and recommended to extend mixed football to include the under-13s age group. The FA AGM on 19 May voted against this proposal which means that girls can no longer play in mixed teams above the under-11s age group.

From the FA’s statement one can only speculate on the thinking that lies behind this rejection and with many other countries encouraging mixed football it sends an unfortunate message of an organisation that has yet to come to terms with equality of opportunity in the 21st century. Worryingly, the FA’s statement implies that the Executive itself , who supported the extension of mixed teams, does not understand what lies behind the rejection by the AGM

The FA Executive will try to establish the reasons why some stakeholders voted against the proposal in order to understand their concerns and to explore the possibility of revisiting the proposal in the future. Sadly this is no consolation to our team (Melbourn Dynamos Under - 12s Tigers) which is going to be torn apart and to the key players who are now prevented from playing for us because of the FA's unjustified and unfair decision.

We ask you to join us in petitioning the FA to change the decision that prevents girls from playing in mixed teams

Hiya I've just been told tonight that when the season ends my daughter won't be able to play for her team anymore. She plays U11 at the minute. Needless to say we're all devastated she's been with them since she was 6. I am going to complain to Manchester FA (not that it will do any difference) and I was just wondering how you've gone on?
Thanks
Tracey

The male chauvinistic pigs in suits win yet again. my daughter is one of those that can no longer play with her team cowplain youth under 12's. she is extremely disappointed at the thought of leaving the team and even asked if she could quit football altogether and just train with the boys, the coach of course won't allow this as apparently she is far too talented a footballer to do that.
whilst the suits are at it why don't they take it all the way back the dark ages and stick us back in the kitchen where they seem to think thast we belong!!!

My son has now played at 2 different teams both of which had girls playing with him and have been unable to continue thanks to this decision, there is also a big lack of girls teams in the area and the girls will have to travel miles to join a new team it's just not fair!!

Our team has also fallen victim to this decision, not only will we lose three fantastic players but we will also not have enough members for our boys to carry on.

I dont understand why they got the girls all excited with the extention to play till u13's only to take it straight back from them, its reall cruel the rule really sucks!!!
