Why Should The British Tax payer pay for the Pope's Visit

We as tax payer are being ask to fund the Pope's visit.
Why should we have this extra burden when we have had the recession.
We are be asked to pay £12 Million Pounds to fund this visit when the Vatican has the money to fund this anyway.

I would ask the Government to not pay this money to them, If he wants to visit here he should pay the money himself.
