Goal : 18 / 1000

We the undersigned support the granting of the licence on 10 December 2009 that allows Lap Dancing at the premises currently known as Thirst Lodge.

We petition for this licence NOT to be withdrawn on the following grounds:

The centre of Oxford, including the area around Thirst Lodge, is very heavily policed at night, as well as very busy with locals and students. There is no way that a strip club in this area will have a significant impact on the number of rapes and sexual assults.

Strip clubs are 'low key', both for reasons of client privacy and to maintain a good image and smart appearence. If anything, the club will reduce the 'significant disturbance to neighbours because of noise and people congregating outside the club', because people are more likely to stay inside the club, and because the aim of a strip club night is not to get drunk and party, but to enjoy some laid back entertainment with friends/partners.

Both men AND women attend these clubs, and I'm sure there will be bouncers, like at any night time venue, for safety and control, so I doubt there will be any sexually stimulated behaviour intimidating women in the area. Rape and sexual assult are extremely rare cases of behaviour, and having a strip club in a busy town centre is realistically just not going to affect this at all.

The Westgate carpark is accesible without going remotely near Thirst Lodge if you are so mortified about passing by a strip club.

And no I dont have anything to do with the club itself, I just think people should be allowed something like this, even if it goes against your moral viewpoint.

Firstly, I don't think anybody should be ashamed to attend such a club, this is after all the 21st century (in case you didn't realise).
I have attended strip clubs on various occasions and can honestly say that I have never in my life felt the urge to rape or abuse a woman, the people whom you refer to, and whom feel that urge, are clearly a minority, and would no doubt cause problems no matter where they choose to spend their night out. So maybe we should just ban all bars and clubs? People with that mentallity will cause problems no matter what, this has nothing to do with the club.
I really don't see why anyone should be offended to walk past the club, especially in the day time when its closed. I walk past churches everyday, and as a non believer don't really agree with the church's beliefs about lots of things, but I am not offended by it, I merely don't go inside.
As I always say, "Live and let live"

"For client privacy", so clearly you admit people would be ashamed to be seen to attend a strip club, so you know there's something unpleasant about them. As for bouncers stopping trouble, what nonsense. People who have attended a place such as this will have it in their minds that women are commodities after being there so are more likely to intimidate and bother women in the general area after being there. I've heard of such behaviour near strip clubs in other areas in which the men who have intimidating the women in question have directly referred to being in the place with lines such as "why should I go back in there when I could have you for free".

This is not the kind of place I want in Great Britain at all but certainly not Oxford.

I am interested to see that you acknowledge in your petition the offence a strip club can cause to passers by. St Ebbe's church is not accessible without going near Thirst Lodge, so there seems to be a significant ground for objecting to the licence, even by your own reasoning.

Rape and sexual assault are not 'extremely rare cases of behaviour' at all.
